Delhi Travel

Delhi, sometimes referred to as Dilli with a population of 17 million people is the second largest city in India. It is located on the banks of the Yamuna River in northern India and is one of the oldest established cities in the world. During the Medieval Era Delhi was the capital city of several Indian Empires and provided a major trade route along northwest India.

The city bears several ancient and Medieval monuments, a testament to its glorious and ancient history. Old Delhi was built by the Emperor Shahjahan to serve as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1649 to 1857. Delhi has become a very cosmopolitan city due to the migration of many people from across India. It boasts a rapid development and urbanization and many people in Delhi earn a reasonably high income. It serves as a major political and commercial center of India.

There is evidence to suggest that around the 2 nd Century BC human settlements had already begun. The remains of seven major cities have been unearthed in Delhi . It came under British control after the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Calcutta was then declared the capital of British India and Delhi became a province of the Punjab.
Delhi has a semi-arid climate with highly varied summer and winter temperatures. Summers last from April through October punctuated by a monsoon in between that and winter, which begins in October and peaks in January. Extreme temperatures include -6 farenheit to 47 degrees farenheit. Be sure you know which seasonal travel you undertake and be mindful of these temperature fluctuations.
